TODAY IS THE 222nd ANNIVERSARY OF THE
SIGNING OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, ALSO KNOWN AS CONSTITUTION
DAY. U.S. REPRESENTATIVE VIRGINIA FOXX MADE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT ON
THE OCCASION OF CONSTITUTION DAY: "MORE THAN TWO CENTURIES AGO 39 PATRIOTS PUT
THEIR NAMES TO A DOCUMENT THAT CHANGED THE COURSE OF HISTORY. THIS
DOCUMENT CHARTERED A LASTING EXPERIMENT IN DEMOCRACY AND PUT OUR NATION ON THE
PATH TO BECOMING THE WORLD'S STRONGEST AND FREEST DEMOCRACY. "OUR CONSTITUTION
REMAINS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR UNIQUE SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT AND INDIVIDUAL
With four handwritten pages, 116 days of hard work, and the thoughts and ideas of 55 men, we have the Constitution of the United States. For more than 200 years, it is these four pages that have dictated and defined us as a people and a country. The core ideas of democracy put down on that document centuries ago are still as relevant and valid as they are today and that’s saying something! As a living document, the U.S. Constitution continues to organize our government and our lives and it belongs to all of us. An impressive achievement for sure!
