Additional Troops to Afghanistan?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

President Obama's decision to send an additional 30,000 into Afghanistan met with a mixed reaction among Capital Hill Democrats on Tuesday. Leading Republicans backed the additional deployments but questioned the creation of a three-year withdrawal timetable. The sharp disagreement among member's of Obama's own party indicates potential political trouble for the president as he tries to rally the country around his decision to expand American involvement in Afghanistan. President Obama's timetable for winding down the war in Afghanistan may be too short for the United States to achieve its war aims but too long to hold American public support.
