Around 20 High Country residents attended a
meeting Tuesday evening to learn how to become trained with the American Red
Cross. Executive Director of the Watauga County Red Cross Sonny Sweet said the
informational meeting was held to schedule training sessions for residents who
would like to volunteer. They have a one-week institute at Port Fisher in April
where they hope to send some people down to get a lot of training accomplished.
With the recent winter weather the High Country has seen along with the
disastrous earthquake in Haiti, the Watauga County Red Cross has heard from
many residents who would like to become trained to help the Red Cross when a
catastrophic events strikes again. Anyone who did not attend the meeting, but
would like to get involved with the Red Cross can call the Watauga County
office at 264-8226.
