A local high school senior is getting national recognition for his work. Watauga High School senior Michael Rosenberg has won National First Place in "Le Grand Concours," the National French Contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Rosenberg was the only student to win a National First Place out of 215 entrants in Level 3E of the contest. His performance also garnered a gold medal, which is the highest award in Le Grand Concours. Rosenberg was in exclusive company, as he was the only student to win a gold medal in Level 3E. More than 100,000 students from all 50 states participated in this year's contest with less than ten percent of those students winning a medal. To commemorate his achievement, Rosenberg received a certificate, a plaque, a gold medal, and two French dictionaries, all of which were presented to him at the Watauga High School capping ceremony May 28. He will also be recognized by the Watauga Board of Education at their meeting on June 14. Rosenberg will attend North Carolina State University in the fall and plans to major in engineering.
