graduation-cap-diploma-class-of-2010-thumb10718113.jpgOver the weekend, every high school students favorite moment came to a conclusion; high school graduation. It's what many students look forward to from the time they start high school, and it's what each and every student savors after they have worked for the past four years trying to achieve. Watauga High School held their graduation ceremonies on Saturday morning starting at 11am at the Holmes Convocation Center on the ASU campus, as 345 Pioneer seniors gathered to celebrate the achievement with all their family and friends. There were plenty of speakers, as Willis Kennedy, the Watauga High School valedictorian, addressed the students and audience, the two senior co-class presidents, Courtney Dunnigan and Madison Bakken, as well as student body president Dylan Russell, salutatorian Aidan Berry, Commissioner Younts from the Watauga County school board, and superintendent Marty Hemrick all spoke at the graduation. The graduated class becomes "old" Watauga High School's last class, before the returning students move into the new Watauga High School this Fall.

Meanwhile, Ashe and Avery County both held their graduation ceremonies on Friday night, as Avery High School held theirs at Viking Gym as a huge crowd packed the gymnasium in Newland to watch the seniors walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. Four years of hard work for all these local students from Watauga, Ashe, and Avery County have finally come to a culmination. While some students start college, others start a job, and others find another field of interest, wherever they go, we wish them the best in their future endeavors and a big congratulations to the class of 2010!
