ASU Softball Falls to College of Charleston Sunday Afternoon
Appalachian State University softball fell in Sunday's pitchers dual to the College of Charleston, 3-1, at Patriots Point Athletics Complex. The Mountaineers' Riley Carter earned her first career start, but took the loss as she scattered eight hits and allowed only three runs in five and a three innings pitched. The rookie from Jacksonville, Fla., only gave up two extra base hits and held CofC's hitters scoreless through three and two-thirds. Fellow freshman Caroline Wainright came in relief and kept ASU within striking distance by recording two crucial scoreless outs in the sixth. The Cougars' Stephanie Saylors only gave up three hits and one run in the complete game victory. The Mountaineers return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. to open a three-game Southern Conference series with arch-rivals Western Carolina. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lloyd Family Stadium.
