Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Ends Season With a Loss


The third-ranked Tusculum Baseball Team swept a doubleheader from Lenoir-Rhyne 16-3 and 6-1, Saturday afternoon in the Bears' regular season finale at Pioneer Park. In addition, the Pioneers win the 2012 SAC Regular Season Championship. In the opener, the Pioneers' Cade Stallings hit a two-run home run and finished with a game-high four RBI as Tusculum plated seven runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to the win. With the score tied at one, Tusculum scored seven times in its half of the second highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Matt Henriksen to put the contest away. Aaron Guinn added four hits and three runs scored while Adam Sigmon improved to 6-1 with the victory for the Pioneers. In game two, Tusculum's Taylor Rakes allowed just one run after taking a shutout into the seventh inning while Alexi Colon hit a home run to lead the Pioneers to the sweep. Colon and Stallings both drove in two runs as the Pioneers finished with 12 hits in the game. With the win Tusculum will be the No. 1 seed in the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament which begins next Thursday in Forest City, N.C.
