Wanted Suspect Captured In Caldwell County
An update in a story we brought to you last week as authorities in Caldwell County captured a wanted suspect over the weekend. 32 year old Jason Alan Laws was captured last night in a chase in Caldwell County after being wanted in several counties for larceny and breaking and entering. Laws was wanted by Caldwell, Burke and with a Federal Probation Violation as well. Authorities had recieved word that Laws had been in the Newland area of Avery County over the Easter weekend but were unable to track him down. The recieved information that Laws was in the Gamewell area over the weekend and deputies went to a residence on Oaklawn Court. The resident denied that Laws was at the residence. Upon the officers arrival, Laws made a run for it as he ran upstairs and jumped out of a window, breaking the glass and cutting his nose and wrist. Officers who were stationed in the back yard of the residence were able to chase Laws down and subdue the suspect after deploying a taser. Laws was handcuffed and taken into custody, charged with outstanding warrants from Caldwell and Burke Counties, with a federal hold pending for a federal probation violation. In Caldwell COunty, Laws ic charged with Larceny of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Breaking and Entering to Auto—all felonies—as well as Resisting Public Officers and Injury to Personal Property, misdemeanors. Warrants in Burke County were served on Laws for two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest. Laws was given bonds totaling out at $40,000 in Caldwell County and $110,000 in all.
