New Software and Counselors Coming To CDC at ASU

The Career Development Center at Appalachian State University has recently added Career Gear and Optimal Resume software programs to enhance services for students and alumni and is planning to expand its staff from four counselors to six. Career Gear is an online resume database where students can put their resume and cover letters online, apply for jobs and internships that match their skills, and set up appointments with counselors on campus. Employers, once approved by the CDC, have the ability to post jobs to the site and accept applications through the site. Optimal Resume helps students build a resume, view samples and get the opinion of counselors in the CDC online.  The program also gives students the chance to conduct a practice interview online and receive feedback. Currently the CDC offers on-campus interviewing, presentations to classes, clubs, and organizations, career fairs, resume clinics and workshops, tutorials, online samples of resume that collate with different majors, practice interviews with employers, online tools and counseling. The CDC also helps with internship searches and on-campus and part-time, off-campus employment. As the university continues to grow, the CDC is doing its best to make sure everyone is receiving the help they need. With the addition of two new counselors, the Department of Nursing will have its own counselors and more prospects in the future for employment opportunities at job fairs.
