Suspended ASU Professor Submits Petition

A Suspended ASU Professor is making strides to try and be reinstated into the University. Earlier today, Professor Jammie Price submitted a petition signed by almost 400 supporters who are calling for her reinstatement. The petition was sent to ASU Provost Lori Gonzalez and delivered in person  by Price this morning with supporters gathering outside of the ASU Administration Building. After being a part of the University for 8 years, Price was placed on administrative leave with pay effective March 16 after four students in an introductory sociology course complained that she had engaged in "inappropriate speech and conduct in the classroom. Complaints against Price are that she made negative remarks about student athletes, and criticized the ASU administration. Students also say she discussed personal material not on the syllabus and showed the documentary "The Price of Pleasure" without warning students about potentially objectionable content in the film, which involves the pornography industry. Price says that her class discussions have been relevant to the study of sociology and that the University is violating her academic freedom. She also said she believes the university is denying her the benefit of a Faculty Due Process hearing and is targeting her due to her outspoken critique of certain issues of the university. According to a letter sent to Price, the university instructed her not to contact any faculty, students or staff and to not discuss the events with anyone who doesen't need to know the information. The case will now move to a metting scheduled for Monday morning at 10am.
