ASU Women's Gold Inks Marion Native For Next Year

Appalachian State University women’s golf inked Madalyn Davis (Marion, N.C./McDowell) for the 2012-13 campaign. Davis graduates from Marion, N.C.’s McDowell High School this spring and will enroll at ASU in the fall. Davis earned all-conference honors as a junior and senior for head coach Charles Webber at McDowell, and also was named the team’s Most Valuable Player three times. She served as the team’s captain twice and as a co-captain one year as well. For her efforts in leading her squad to a league championship in the fall, she was named the Mountain Athletic 4A/3A Conference Player of the Year. Davis averaged 36 strokes per nine-hole round as a senior and carded an 18-hole round of 66 at Asheville Municipal and added a 33 (-3) on her home course as a junior. She earned letters in basketball and soccer and plans to major in athletic training at Appalachian. Davis joins Salisbury, N.C. native Lily Yatawara in the 2012 incoming class, who signed last fall. The Mountaineers placed fifth in the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament and return five players for 2012-13, including four rising seniors.
