Ashe Teen Hospitalized After Falling From Truck

A teenager was transported to a hospoital after falling from a truck in Ashe County over the weekend. 19 year old Albert Utley of Crumpler was listed in serious condition at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Utley fell off of the back of a tailgate of a moving truck on Sunday and suffered serious internal injuries. Utley and a group of friends were being pulled from a piece of carpet that was attached to a pick-up truck. Utley was rushed to Ashe Memorial Hospital before being transported to WFBMC in Winston-Salem around 10 p.m. Although there is no law in North Carolina that prohibits a person over the age of 16 riding unrestrained in the back of a moving pick-up, the driver could have been charged with careless and reckless driving if anyone was in fact pulled by the truck on a piece of carpet. No charges have yet to be filed.
