ASU Cadet Suffers Fatal Heat Stroke


Hearts are heavy on the campus of Appalachian State this evening after the loss of a fellow student. Cadet Christopher Hasbrouck of Pittsboro, a member of Appalachian State University Army ROTC and a sophomore computer science major died May 2 from complications related to a heat stroke he suffered on  April 21. Cadet Hasbrouck was participating in the annual Mountain Man Memorial March in Gatlinburg, Tenn. He was running in the half marathon event when he collapsed. He was taken to LeConte Medical Center in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., then evacuated to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. A memorial book will be available for signing at Plemmons Student Union on campus Friday, May 4. The memorial book will be sent to Cadet Hasbrouck’s family as an expression of concern and care for them.
