National Day Of Prayer Held At Newland First Baptist
Last week on May 3rd, the National Day of Prayer was observed in Newland, NC at noon, as it was in many other small towns and communities around our nation. First Baptist Church of Newland was the site of the ceremony, as part of the street in front of the church was blocked off for the prayer ceremony. The Honor guard presented the colors as those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Sheriff Kevin Frye opened by reciting the 2012 National Prayer. Judge Phillip Gin spoke about the importance of prayer in our country and how all our leaders need this more now than ever with the uncertainty in our world today. Local pastors Wade Huntsinger ; Dr. Bill Jones and Rev. Lander Heafner conducted prayer services as well. Mr. Buck Wicker performed the second stanza of the National Anthem , one that has not received the publicity as the one we all know , but it is just as powerful Mr. Wicker stated before his solo. The ceremony closed with the closing prayer by Sheriff Frye.
