Avery Golf Stands 4th in State Championships
After taking second place in the Western Regionals, the Avery Men's Golf team finds themselves in a well performance at the 1A State Championships. After the first 2 rounds of the State Championships, Avery finds themselvs in 4th place overall with a 643, shooting a 318 in the first round and a 325 in the second round. East Surry leads Avery by 3 strokes for third place as Bishop Mcguiness and standout player William Whitaker lead the Championship with a 578. Whitaker stands in 2nd place overall in he individual catagory with a 2 round total of 140, 1 stroke behind teammate Stanhope Johnson. Avery Senior Daniel Childress sits in 8th place overall with a 152, shooting a 76 in both the first and 2nd rounds. Vikings Shea Buchanan sits in 15th place in the Championship, tied with teammate Chance Watson with both players shooting a 2 round tatal of 162. Buchanan compiled an 81 in both rounds as Watson shot an impressive 76 the first day, then going with a 2nd round 86. Avery golfer Morgan Johnson sits in 28th after the first 2 rounds with a 179, improving his first round score of 97 to an 82 the second round. Harley Foster sits in 34th place for the Vikings with a 2 round total of 192 while Charlie rounds out the field for Avery with a 221 which is good for 41st. This years Championship takes place at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek North Carolina.
