America started training the Mujahideen in Pakistan in 1978 and Pres. Carter authorized arming them in 1979. Bin Laden's AlQaeda didn't come into the scene til 1988-89. AlQaeda turned against America because they didn't like Muslim Holy cities occuppied by allies of Zionist Israel. Bin Laden viewed the U.S. as "Crusaders" waging war against Muslims and Arab nations to weaken them so Israel would be the major power. Americans view any opposition as "terrorists" when they fight back, you see.
