Doc Watson Funeral Arrangements Announced



This weekend, fans, friends and family will gather to pay their last respects to high country resident and music icon Doc Watson. Doc's funeral will be held this Sunday at the Laurel Springs Baptist Church in Deep Gap beginning at 3 p.m with Pastor Larry Young and Rev. Gary Watson officiating the service. The family will recieve friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 5 an lasting through 9pm. Doc passed away earlier this week after complications stemming from Colon Surgery earlier this month. This week, fans from all across the high country payed their respects at the Doc Watson statue on King Street, laying flowers in memorium of the musical icon. Doc won 7 grammy awards in his career, including a grammy lifetime achievement award and was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2010. Hampton Funeral home will be in charge of funeral services for Doc and his family.
