ASU Professor Passes Away After Battle With Cancer
Hearts are heavy on the campus of Appalachian State University after the passing of a beloved professor. Dr. Monica Pombo, a faculty member in the Department of Communications at Appalachian State, passed away on Wednesday following a battle with cancer. Dr. Pombo had been a part of the ASU faculty since 2003 when she began work as an assistant professor within the University. She would go on to become the Assistant Chair of the Department Of Communications in 2009. When contacting Dr. Janice Pope, Chair of the Department of Communication, she commented on the loss saying “The Department of Communication lost a cherished faculty member when Monica passed on, but we will not forget her. Monica’s spirit of warm intelligence and deep authenticity will be carried forward by her students and those of us who were privileged to know her and work with her. We will miss her presence and celebrate her life, both.” We here at MTN would like to send out our thoughts and prayers to the Pombo family and to fellow students and faculty at Appalachian State.
