Summer Car Care Tips

According to a recent study by the U.S. Travel Association, more than half of vacationers planning to drive by car will alter their summer driving leisure plans due to higher gas prices. Rather than changing family vacation plans, vehicle specialists encourage motorists to proactively maintain vehicles to ease the pain at the pump and get the most out of their gas tanks. To save money and prevent a breakdown during the hottest months of the year, vehicle specialists have some helpful tips for drivers.
·         Be proactive. Don’t wait for a breakdown to check under the hood. Replacing engine components at required intervals can help prevent an unexpected breakdown.
·         Replace parts at proper intervals. Changing spark plugs, oxygen sensors and air filters at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals not only keeps the car running efficiently, it can also save thousands in unexpected repairs down the road.
·         Test the battery if four years or older. Testing the battery during the summer months can help to avoid being stranded during the hottest time of the year.
It is always a safe bet to take your car to a local mechanic or auto parts store to have a professional look over your vehicle before making a long trip.
