Topless video an internet sensation
Thailand’s Culture Minister Sukumol Khunploem said today (June 18) that she will seek an explanation from producers of a popular television show after a woman appeared topless during Sunday’s prime-time slot.
Mrs Sukumol said she was shocked when viewing a clip from Thailand’s Got Talent, which featured a female contestant painting a canvas with her bare breasts.
The video is rapidly being shared across Thailand’s social media networks.
Mrs Sukumol expressed concern about the part of the programme showing breasts, which she described as “inappropriate” for children. She does, however, believe the programme is good quality and encourages Thai youth to showcase their talent.
“I don’t understand how the production team allowed the show to go on air unedited as the show was not broadcast live,” she said.
Initially, the ministry will ask the programme producers and Channel 3 to explain the censorship process, and will further discuss the issue with relevant agencies.
The topless painting display was performed by a 23-year-old woman who turned away form the audience to face the canvas, took off her shirt and bra, then threw coloured paint on her body and proceeded to paint the canvas with her breasts.
The female performer was voted through to the next round by two male judges, though she failed to win the heart, and vote, of the sole female judge.
