Banner Elk Hosted Purina Dog Show Over Weekend
London is currently hosting the Summer Olympics of 2012, but none of the athletes participating in them can perform the high flying thrills and acrobatics that the Purina Dog Show in Banner Elk had last weekend. The old Banner Elk School yard was filled with canines of all breeds, as the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and My Best Friends Barkery hosted the inaugural Purina Dog Show. Mallory Barrick of The Pet Place in Boone was one of the many local vendors on hand, as the large crowd of dog lovers enjoyed shopping for their pets. Mallory said the turnout was unbelievable for the first year and commended the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and My Best Friends Barkery for all their hard work in putting the show together. Erica Siegel of My Best Friends Barkery and one of the event sponsors in Banner Elk said the show raised over seven hundred dollars for the Avery County Humane Society. “We sold over twenty pies and all of our raffle tickets” Erica said. Erica went on to say that the show exceeded everyone’s expectations and we are making plans for a two day event next year. There were many show categories for all the dogs there that were not quite as agile as the professional Purina dogs . Best tail wager, oldest, best hand shake, and the most popular category , dogs that look like their owners. We have invited Erica and all the folks that made the show possible to our studios to find out more about this great event.
