Deputy Mast Laid To Rest



Family, friends, and residents of the high country along with hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the country gave their final salute to one of Watauga County's Heros.

Funeral services were held for Deputy William Mast Jr. yesterday evening who was fatally wounded in a shooting incident last week. Funeral Services were held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church where hundreds of law enforcement officers lined the road leading to the church to pay their final respects.

Afterwards, the community showed their respects and showed how much appreciation was felt for Officer Mast as hundreds of residents lined highway 105, displaying signs and flags in honor of Mast. The Boone and Blowing Rock Fire Departments placed 2 ladder trucks on the side of the highway which draped the American flag over 105 in honor of the Deputy as well.

The procession traveled along 421 onto 105, making it's way across the 105 bypass to 421 and onto 321. Hundreds of law enforcement units took part in the procession to pay their respects. Sheriffs Departments from all over the country were represented as units from New York City and Pennsylvania made the trip to Boone to show their appreciation for Mast.
