Grandfather Home For Children Celebrates 1st Arts & Music Festival
Almost 100 years ago Rev. Edgar Tufts founded Grandfather Home for Children as a way to care for orphans from the local mountain counties. Last weekend the same grounds that many children have called home and found new families to adopt them came alive with the first arts and music festival for Grandfather Home. Folks enjoyed train trips around the campus and saw new buildings mixed in with the historic ones that Rev. Tufts had built. Soon Grandfather Home will be having a centennial celebration to mark the milestone thatstarted from a converted farm house to what now is an organization that caresfor hundreds of children from broken homes across the state. Grandfather Home now has five regional offices in Asheville, Waynesville, Charlotte, Winston -Salem, and Raleigh. Stay tuned to MTN 18 next week as we are having some of the folks in our studios from Grandfather Home to discuss plans for the centennial and learn more about the organization.
