Old Butler Days Celebration This Weekend


The 23rd annual celebration of Old Butler Days kicks off this weekend, in Butler Tennessee. The event begins Friday August 10that 3 pm atBabe Curtis Park and willcontinue through Saturday August 11th. Butler once was a thriving small town in East Tennessee that was flooded early in the century to make way for what now is Watauga Lake. The Butler Ruritan Club welcomes all to come for a weekend of fun activities. Both days will feature plenty of live music and great homemade food cooked up by the Ruritan Club members. There will be lots of vendors, raffles, kid’sgames, story tellers and a train ride through historic Butler. A poker run and scavenger hunt will kick off Saturday morning,and a moving salute to the military with Rolling Thunder. This year Ruritan spokesperson Merry Murdock said in addition to the pontoon boat rides around Watauga Lake, there also will be tethered hot air balloon rides above the lake
Rounding out the evening Johnson High School Drama Group will perform “River Rising”the story of life before and after the small town of Butler was flooded so the region could have electricity.
