ASU baseball broke out of its recent offensive slump in a big way Tuesday, setting season highs for hits and runs in a 19-6 win over North Carolina A&T at Smith Stadium. The Apps have been getting only three-and-a-half runs a game over its last seven games, but made up for that big time against the Aggies, scoring in each of the first seven innings of the game, and getting the 19 runs off 20 hits, both highs for the year. The Mountaineers scored a run in the first inning, four in the second and two in the third before A&T could put a guy on base. A&T got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth, but ASU answered with five in the bottom of the stanza to make it 12-1. Then ASU put together a three run sixth inning to stretch the lead to 16-2. The Aggies got two in the 7th and two in the 8th and then ASU got three more in the bottom of the seventh. Nine different players recorded hits for Appalachian, led by a 4-for-5, three-RBI, three-run effort by Isaac Harrow. ASU starter Ryan Arrowood held A&T to two runs on four hits over six innings of work. He struck out three and needed only 58 pitches to earn his first-career win. The Mountaineers are 8-14 overall, and that will hold for a bit, as the Radford game scheduled for Wednesday was rained out. The Mountaineers will head south for conference action this weekend, as they head to Davidson for a three game series at Wilson Field.
