The Avery Middle School Girls softball team hosted Cane River Middle School from Yancey County on Monday afternoon. Avery, coming off 2 straight exciting wins last week, were looking to make it 3 wins in a row, but the Cane River Rebels had other ideas. The Avery Girls battled hard, played tough defense, and got several runners on base, including a big hit from Nikki Wright, but Avery was unable to get any runners across the plate. Cane River, one of the top teams in the Toe River Conference, were not to be denied, and the Rebels went on to the win. Avery hosted 1st place East Yancey in a doubleheader Tuesday. We'll have the report Wednesday.
