Mountaineer baseball gave the NC State Wolfpack a run for their money, leading 6-4 in the top of the eighth inning, but State rallied for six runs in the the bottom of the inning and took the contest 10-6 from the Apps. The Mountaineers trailed going into the eighth inning, but Wes Hobson smacked a three-run homer to put ASU ahead. Hobson got into an 0-2 hole with two runners on and two outs when he drilled the ball over the right-field wall. The frustrating thing is that, in all, ASU left 11 men on base in the game, so they had opporunities, but just couldn't get the runs. Isaac Harrow led the Mountaineers' 13-hit effort with a 4-for-5 performance that upped his batting average to .425 on the season. Hobson collected three of the Apps' four RBI with his eighth-inning blast. Appalachian closes the regular season with a three-game home series with Longwood Thursday and Friday at Smith Stadium. Game one is Thursday night at 7 p.m. and Friday will see a doubleheader, beginning at 2, with the Mountaineer seniors honored between those two games.
