The Watauga Pioneer Varsity teams fell to McDowell on Saturday in Marion. In the womens game, the Titans opened with a 18-0 run and never looked back, taking a 79-38 win. Nicole Tesh led Watauga with 12 points. Kristina Rees put up 8.
The Watauga men also had a tough time against the Titans. The Titans took advantage of an 18-0 run over the first and second quarters and led by 20 at the half, and went on to a 90-71 win over the Pioneers. Damian Edwards scored a season-high 20 points, but only 4 of them in the second half. Jake Pifer scored 14, and Josh Coffey had 11.
The Watauga JV Girls got a 43-40 win over McDowell, but the JV boys fell 53-25. Watauga will host TC Roberson Tuesday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
-The Avery Vikings split with Sullivan North in a weekend tournament at Mitchell High School. The Lady Vikings won 77-41, with the Viking boys lost 78-70. On Friday, the Lady Vikings earned a hard fought one-point win over RS Central but the boys lost.
-The Ashe Huskies varsity teams split with Alexander Central, the Lady Huskies won 53-25, but the Husky boys lost 32-30.
