ASU defensive back Mark LeGree was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his role in Appalachian's SoCon championship-clinching victory at Elon last Saturday. LeGree intercepted two passes in ASU's convincing 27-10 win over Elon. Both interceptions came in the first quarter and each led directly to touchdowns that helped the Mountaineers build an early 21-0 lead. The All-American's two interceptions propelled him into the conference lead with six on the season, all of which have come in the past five games. With a season of eligibility still remaining, the junior's 16 career INTs are good for second among all active FCS players. The SoCon recognition is LeGree's second of the season and third of his career.
Speaking of Mountaineer football, after knocking off Elon Saturday and clinching the SoCon title again, the Apps have moved up in the coaches poll. The Mountaineers are now 6th on the AFCA list, however, did not advance in the Sports Network poll, still number 6 on that list. The Sports Netork poll has Southern Illinois as the number one team, followed by Villanova, Montana, Richmond then William and Mary. In the coaches poll, the top three are different - Montana, Southern Illinois, Villanova. Elon dropped to 10th in both polls.
