The Watauga Storm boy's u-13/7th grade basketball team won the 3rd Annual Smoky-Mountain Rim-Rocker in Elizabethton, TN. The tournament hosted a nine team field. In game 1 the Storm lost to the Avery Blizzard 26-24. Zeb Speir led the Storm with 7 points, followed by Hunter Shore with 6. The Storm then beat the Abingdon, VA Falcons 41-38. TJ Poulus led the Storm with 8 points, followed by Shore with 7. Kenan Foxx, Matt Tyndall, and Hunter Isaacs pitched in 6 apiece, finally Kory Phillips and Shore joined with 2 points apiece. The Storm was seeded 2nd in Pool C. On Sunday, in Bracket play the Storm defeated the Elizabethton, TN Cyclones 50-44. Matt Lambert led the Storm with 15 points and 10 boards, followed by Poulus with 14 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. In their semi-finals the Storm defeated the Abingdon, VA Falcons for a 2nd time 34-22. Lambert and Poulus led the Storm with 8 points apiece, followed by Shore and Tyndall with 5 points apiece. In the finals the Sotrm defeated the Kinsport, TN Indians 42-35. Lambert once again led the Storm with 14 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Poulus with 9 points and Tyndall with 8 points. The Storm is coached by Stephen Poulus, Teddy Isaacs, Andrew Webb, and Ethan Poulus. The Storm returns to action in the 3rd Annual Slam Dunk Basketball Tournament in Hillsville, VA March 6 and 7.
